Warrina

Background

Situated in tropical far north Queensland, Warrina is a community based organisation providing independent living and residential care across three sites to frail, aged and disabled in the community.

In 2009 the organisation faced a crisis that divided the community and the very future of the organisation was at risk, with impending sanctions from the Department of Health and Ageing.

Community Business Australia was engaged by the new board and CEO Peter Roberts, to facilitate change in governance practices and assist in the future planning for Warrina.

Requirements

Board governance training and development

Facilitate strategic planning processes

Facilitate harmonious relationships with the board and CEO

Results

Governance policies, practices, tools and resources approved and implemented

Strategic and operational planning processes developed and implemented

Strong respectful relationship between the board and CEO

Stable leadership and community support

The assistance from Patrick Herd and Community Business Australia has been critical to the changes that have been made at Warrina. Where only a short while ago the organisation was in genuine turmoil, Warrina is now operating with clear goals, high quality outcomes and a total focus on resident care.

A clear and strong governance structure has underpinned these changes, staff moral is high and our community standing is the envy of many. Thank you Patrick for your professionalism, deep understanding of both our business and the industry and your ongoing friendship.

Peter Roberts – CEO
